Alex Guarnaschelli

Guarnaschelli is the child of the cookbook editor Maria Guarnaschelli and John Guarnaschelli. In the year 1991, she graduated from Barnard College with an art historical degree. She worked for the American Place restaurant for one year for the lowest wage in between 1991 and the year 1991. Guarnaschelli began her culinary career in the kitchen of her mother, watching her prepare and editing the cookbooks she had written. Guarnaschelli was a chef under Larry Forgione (whose son is Iron Chef Marc Forgione), and later at various establishments in France, New York and Los Angeles, including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Also, she worked at Daniel Boulud's restaurant named after him and Joachim Splichal's Patina before being named the executive chef of Butter. Prior to its closing it was her job to be the chef-in-chief of The Darby. She serves as chairperson of the Museum of Food and Drink's Culinary Council. Guarnaschelli launched her first cookbook in the year 2013. "Old-School Comfort Food A Memoir of the Way I learned to Cook" incorporates autobiographical elements with favourite recipes of her professional career that she later adapted to her family home.
